Prior to owning the Joy Moos Gallery, Joy Moos was co-director of the Montréal-based Gallery Moos Inc. with her husband, the late Walter (Wally) A. Moos. Joining her husband ‘s “Family Moos" was her entrée into the commercial art world.
Members of the Moos art dynasty have directed galleries since the turn of the last century, primarily in Europe and later in Canada and the United States.
Joy Moos’ experience has taken her into various fields of art, antiques and public relations. A founding member of Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL), she participated in the first Art Deco Weekend in Miami Beach as the Special Events Director for the organization. Among other functions, she organized the first benefit for the Mickey Wolfson Collection prior to its being placed in its own museum in Miami Beach.
In 1979 she was appointed President of The Art Deco International Society (ADIS) and held a founding membership event in New York whose attendance included, among other luminaries, Andy Warhol, architect Philip Johnson, and famed critic Brendan Gill.
Joy has worked as a free-lance journalist and photographer and has traveled extensively. In the early 80’s, as President of Magic City Productions, she was co-publicity director of The Miami Film Festival and produced fund raising events and parties that included all the attending film stars.
In 1982 she had a major one-woman photography exhibition in Montréal that included 52 of her hand-painted photographs of Montréal, London, and Miami Beach. Joy Moos’ photos have also been exhibited in London and Miami.
While enjoying a reputation in Canada as a dealer in contemporary art as well as “20th Century Masters", she represented some of the most sought-after artists exhibiting in New York through her representation of the Pace Gallery. Works by Calder, Nevelson, Trova, and others were all exhibited at her gallery in Montréal.
Joy Moos has been active in the world of art since the late 60’s - writing articles, giving lectures, and curating art exhibitions. In 1983, four years after Wally Moos’ untimely passing, she opened the Moosart Gallery in Miami, Florida.
A long time advocate of emerging talent, her commitment to showing new and often ‘undiscovered’ artists has led her to seek out and represent artists from diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds.
Now working privately and by appointment, Joy Moos has moved into the cyber age and welcomes new and past clients to join her in the ongoing adventure of discovering and collecting unique and captivating examples of creative self-expression.
